The Lausanne Trilogue Play allows studying the development of family communication from its origins, thus building bridges between family process and developmental research. This article describes how family communication is constructed before the appearance of verbal language. It stresses the importance of intersubjectivity, co-parental alliance and infant competence to interact in a threesome from the beginning and outlines their clinical implications.
