The first part of this paper discusses how a group managed to appropriate and overcome what, in the group’s imagination, represented a primary narcissistic wound. Then, it demonstrates how the Freudian concept of “narcissism” may be transposed to the group and the benefits of doing so. Lastly, this paper relates the concept of “group narcissism” to two other well-known concepts: “group illusion” and “group psychical apparatus.”
