This article reflects on a historiographic tradition that has blamed the long reign of Angevin for the formation of power groups destined to form the political elites of the continental Mezzogiorno in a crystallized picture, already in the fourteenth century. Through the main lines of research followed in recent years, which have led to a complete renewal of angioinist historiography, it investigates both the relationship with the court and the service regis, the role of the capital and the urban and stately contexts. The aim is that of identifying chronological hairpins, whether there were, that helped to define the identity aspects of political power groups between the end of the 13th century and the middle of the 15th century.
