Formalizing monitoring practices in organizations advocating radical autonomy

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2022. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article looks at how monitoring systems operate in organizations advocating radical autonomy: Are they a veiled negation of the self-declared autonomy or can they, on the contrary, bolster autonomy? To answer this question, we analyze the forms of organizational oversight being implemented in liberated companies, or in organizations that have developed an ambitious program related to the New Way of Working (NWOW), as well as their impact on the autonomy of those involved. To do so, we analyze case studies carried out in seven organizations in western Switzerland. Interviews, an assessment of autonomy levels, nonparticipant observations, and focus groups were conducted. The analysis shows that these organizations are developing concerted forms of monitoring, but that the effect of such monitoring on subjective autonomy depends more on how it is carried out than on its nature.
