At a time when reflection on freedom was scarcely developed, Meister Eckhart gives full scope to it, going as far as proposing an “ethics of freedom” through the free spirit which is not only a fundamental goal, but also the condition for the birth of God in the soul. Illustrating by this his programme of preaching, Eckhart brings out the anthropological orientation of his work, which manifests its actuality.
