The Modified Labeling Theory: Or Stigmatic Analysis Revisited
Type de matériel :
88
This paper attempts to update the concept of stigma. The author makes a historical return to the premises of labeling theory and the opposition it draws. The works on modified labeling theory by Bruce Link and colleagues bring about a revision-extension of the concept of stigma in the field of psychiatry. They measure the consequences of stigma and the role of self-stigma in psychiatric patients. Six conceptual extensions (labeling – social distance – stereotypization – discrimination – power – emotions) are presented and outlined. The implications for an anti-stigma policy and the oppositions to it are discussed.
