Catechesis or the grace of initiation in a pluralistic world

The national text on orientations for catechesis, the fruit of a long period of preparation in which the people of God were deeply engaged, presents a pedagogy of initiation within a pluralistic context. It thus takes note of a new situation for proposing the faith in society. At every age of human life, it is the whole Church, by virtue of the ecclesial nature of baptismal faith itself, that is called to take responsibility for the act of catechesis, which is resolutely missionary in nature. Centred on the paschal Christ who reveals the meaning of creation, Christian initiation is a grace that comes from him. It unfolds over a series of journeys, itineraries of a catechumenal type and through catecheses inspired by the mystagogical tradition of the Church in order to nourish these beginnings of lived faith. New tools are yet to be invented, and trails to be blazed following the orientations provided in this text, which are deeply rooted in the heart of the faith and in the situation of contemporary postmodern society.
