"This issue of the journal considers radio and television public service broadcasting (PSB) in France and abroad at the start of the 21st century, on the international stage, in a context marked by perceptible politico??”economic growth, burdened by the industrial and technical changes due to the generalization of information and communication techniques (digital infrastructure of radio/television and digital broadcasting). In three sections, the issue presents (i) a series of analyses of various political concepts (broadly strategic) of public service over time in Europe, France, Spain, Poland, and Lebanon; (ii) several articles on radio, questioning PSB formats (past and new) and programming; and (iii) the latest series of television studies, exploring its digital restructuring. The aim is to understand the current redefinition of public broadcasters, due largely to political and financial tensions caused by national situations. The new public industrial logic taking shape has largely been built. It is positioned on markets in which the digital-service offers and programs are presumed to play a central role, leading actors in public radio and television channels toward uncertain positions."
