This research from the information and communication sciences focuses upon different forms of media construction of trans identities in the light of gender and cultural studies. It shows how our representations generate both social and media-cultural models. This study is based on five years of participative field observation of French trans identities, and also on a body of eight hundred audio-visual documents held by the National Audio-Visual Institute, dating from 1946 to the present day. With this contribution, we show the theoretical contributions and abstract tools through which we sought to place this subject within the information and communication sciences.
