Figures of the Double and Difference during the Perinatal Period
Type de matériel :
29
The presence of the double is important in the perinatal period and it finds renewal in rites surrounding births, as with placentary or umbilical doubles, but also similarities linking present and past. This feature also necessarily involves the differences that separate and make for distinctions between human beings and generations. During the perinatal time, the family is links in with what is familiar in “sameness” to then go on to separate and find differences in the process of becoming “other”. Leaving the doubling effect helps in differentiating between oneself and others, between the new family group and the old (Janus looking forward and backward). Sometimes the resumption of former family history is hindered and the perinatal period suffers a lack of differentiation between bodies and psyches. The child then remains as a double of the parent in generational confusion.
