The author of this paper draws on her practice as a clinical psychologist working in the sphere of psychoanalysis with individuals who have been rushed to hospital due to a severe asthma attack to provide a mouthpiece for the affects which accompany the respiratory distress experienced by these patients. The analytical perspective provides an eloquent means of rethinking the bonds between body, affect and representation in clinical situations of breathlessness which may arise at any time in our life.
