From the architext to the computext. Poetics of the digital text, facing the evolution of devices

The “architexts” encoded in software and industrial platforms aim at controlling the form of the text. Currently, the big digital companies are increasingly intervening in the writing of textual content—a new stranglehold that has materialized in the processes of self-completion and predictive writing calculated by the “computext.” The avant-garde movements in digital literature elaborated dystopian anticipations of this stranglehold: anticipations that culminated in texts that only machines can read. Recent experiments on social networks reverse these paradigms of the historical avant-gardes. Crypto-languages thwart the process of language exploitation by the machine while restoring communication with the human subject.
