Maite Tapia and Tamara L. Lee coordinated an investigation into labour relations at several Amazon warehouses in the USA. With Bridget Kenny, Maurizio Atzeni investigated a warehouse of Mercado Libre, Amazon’s Latin American equivalent, in the Greater Buenos Aires. These investigations demonstrate the importance of a localized analysis of transnational firms, and of the forms of engagement at work that each configuration makes possible. Our interviews with the authors highlight the differentiated relationship of these companies to trade unionism, the uneven automation of logistical work, and the way in which local contexts and the social properties of workers inform labour relations.
