Sa forte attractivité repose également sur un sentiment victimaire exploitant tous les poncifs de « l’islamophobie » et de la théorie du complot dont elle serait victime.Cette surenchère victimaire sur fond de paranoïa collective est considérée comme un leurre destiné à égarer les uns, et un moyen destiné de rassembler les autres, en désignant des boucs-émissaires. Ces confusions et amalgames conduisent aussi à brouiller la réalité statistique et sociologique ainsi que le débat public sur ce sujet.
