À travers le cas clinique d’une adolescente obèse, en cure d’amaigrissement, nous présentons une approche qui se veut originale en prenant en considération les différents aspects de la transmission psychique du symptôme obésité dans le corps familial ; et cela afin de comprendre en quoi ce peut être un facteur prédisposant à l’obésité et aux résistances face à la perte de poids. La dimension transgénérationnelle serait un des vecteurs originels de compréhension de l’obésité. Le sujet aurait à travers son corps gros une fonction défensive de contenance du groupe familial, dans un tout unique et indifférencié, pour en préserver son identité et son homéostasie. L’enveloppe corporelle malléable du sujet en miroir avec celle de son groupe primaire, serait une tentative ultime de formaliser une représentation impensable liée à la généalogie du corps familial.

Obesity – Transgenerational Transmission of the Family Body. This article traces a cure with an obese teenage girl who had embarked on a weight loss programme. Its approach is original in that it takes into consideration different aspects of the psychical transmission of the obesity symptom within the family body and this with an aim to understanding in what ways unconscious factors create a predisposition to obesity and resistance to the idea of losing weight. We argue that the transgenerational dimension is an underlying dynamic in our understanding of obesity. The subject uses their obese body as a means of defending and upholding their image of the family as a unique and homogeneous whole, thus preserving its identity and homeostasis. The compliant bodily envelope of the subject becomes a mirror image of that of the primary family group, in an ultimate attempt to formalise an unthinkable representation of the genealogy of the family body.
