The Sésame Digital Application: New Ways of Constructing Images of Rural Religious Heritage?

New digital technologies including experimental tour guide applications are used to facilitate access to heritage sites. Some projects innovate by creating mediated access to cultural objects through digitized images. In this article we explore the Sésame heritage project. Our objective is to understand the relations between the physical visit (authentic experience), the appropriation of visual identities and the issues linked to digital technologies. The visual substitutes proposed by different projects raise the question of how communication strategies can activate real remote visit experiences.
