La responsabilité sociétale des banques a été sérieusement interpellée, en particulier depuis la crise financière. Adoptant une aooriche longitudinale, cet article examine la relation entre la performance sociétale et la performance financière dans le secteur bancaire. L’échantillon se compose de 127 entreprises internationales étudiées entre 2002 et 2008. La performance financière est évaluée en utilisant des données comptables et de marché. La performance sociétale est évaluée à partir du système de notation SAM (Sustainable Asset Management). Les résultats mettent en evidence une relation positive entre la performance financière et la performance sociétale.

Banks’ social responsibility (CSR) has been seriously challenged, especially since the financial crisis. Adopting a longitudinal approach this article examines the relation between CSR and financial performance in the banking industry. The sample consists of 127 international banks between 2002 and 2008. Financial performance is evaluated using accounting and market-based data. CSR performance is assessed according to Sustainable Asset Management’s rating system. The findings notably indicate a positive association between CSR performance and banks’ financial performance.
