Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. | Development of speech technologies This paper investigates problems associated with Human-Machine communication. Speech plays an important role in rendering this method of communication more natural. The expansion of telecommunication and mobile computing devices, together with improvements in their performance, help to facilitate the application of advanced technologies, notably those related to speech. Following a background analysis, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of speech and present a historical survey of research and commercialized systems. Although state-of-the art, these are voluntarily limited to non-telematic applications and are focused on speech recognition systems. With rapid advances in technology, however, our survey cannot pretend to be exhaustive. This paper also examines the motivations for using vocal interaction, namely when combined with other communication modes. |
