| Summary, etc. | RésuméEn 1995, les dix-neuf départements d’éducation existant sous l’apartheid ont laissé place à un système éducatif national unique, décentralisé et, en principe, démocratique. Cependant, au niveau local, les réalités éducatives sont encore souvent celles du passé. En effet, la ségrégation demeure une composante du paysage sud-africain et le domaine scolaire n’échappe pas à cet état de fait. L’ancienne organisation de l’espace urbain, encore fortement marquée par l’apartheid, la relation entre la communauté scolaire et le comité de gestion de l’établissement scolaire, notamment dans les anciennes écoles blanches, sont autant d’éléments peu propices à une déségrégation et une démocratisation effectives du système éducatif sud-africain. |

| Summary, etc. | Education and democracy in South Africa: the new single decentralised education system facing the reproduction of inequalitiesIn 1995, the 19 education departments existing during the apartheid era were transformed into a unique, decentralised, and apparently democratic national education system. However, at the local level, educational realities remain unchanged. In fact, segregation is still part of the South African landscape and does not save the educational sphere. The old urban structure, which is still in place, and the relationship between the school community and the school governing body, particularly in former white schools, are some inauspicious elements to effective desegregation and democratisation in the South-African educational system. |
