| Summary, etc. | Résumé La passion pour « les poisons de l’esprit» offre une illustration saisissante et caractéristique de l’exaltation humaine, des plus insensibles à la raison et des plus insistantes. Le XIXe siècle témoigne de façon exemplaire d’un enthousiasme grandissant pour les psychotropes, baumes des douleurs physiques et morales, qui s’est vu sanctionné par un souci impérieux d’instaurer un contrôle social de leur usage. L’expression d’un tel moralisme appliqué aux abus de la magie chimique a peut-être trouvé un aboutissement provisoire dans la substitution de la santé au bien-être, qui s’appuie sur des politiques de santé publique qui opposent à la déréliction humaine les valeurs d’une responsabilité individuelle redevable au groupe social des preuves de la légitimité d’un tel recours. La morale sociale semble alors s’imposer comme idéal à la clinique médicale, au prix de l’hypothèque du droit que chaque individu peut revendiquer: être l’artisan de son propre malheur au cours de ses tentatives d’apaisement de la douleur d’exister. |

| Summary, etc. | The passion for « the poisons of the spirit» offers a striking illustration characteristic of the human exaltations, among those most insensitive to reason and highly insistent. The XIXth century shows, in an exemplary way, the growing enthusiasm for psychotropic substances, balms for physical and moral pains, which were sanctioned by a pressing concern to found a social control of their use. The expression of such a moralism applied to «chemical magic » abuses has perhaps got a provisional result through the substitution of wellbeing by health, based on public health policies that oppose the human dereliction to the values of a liability that is indebted to the social group for providing the evidence of such a recourse legitimacy. Social morals then seem to be prescribed as ideal to the clinical approach, at the price of the mortgage of the human right each individual can claim for: the right to be the worker of his own misfortune while attempting to soothe his pain and hinder its existence. |
