| Summary, etc. | Résumé Pratiquement inconnus dans les pays occidentaux il y a encore quelques décennies, l'ayahuasca et ses rituels y font aujourd?hui une entrée remarquable. Nous présentons une synthèse multi et interdisciplinaire de cette singulière préparation psychotrope, dont deux des alcaloïdes principaux sont na~turellement présents dans le corps humain. Les aspects pharmacochimiques (compositions, modes d?action) et biomé~dicaux (paramètres cardiovasculaires, EEG, risques aigus à moyen et long termes, utilité thérapeutique) ont particulièrement retenu notre attention. Une piste neuropharmacologique concernant le potentiel «antiaddictif» documenté de l'ayahuasca est indiquée. Des raisons, formulables en termes de limitation des risques, d?éviter une pathologisation et une prohibition ? souvent plus réflexes que réfléchies ? sont exposées. En conclusion est soulignée la nécessité d?orienter aussi la recherche sur les rapports entre les demandes explicites adressées à l'ayahuasca (théra~pies complémentaires et alternatives, épanouissement personnel; initia~tion et développement spirituels) et les réponses apportées par les rituels ayahuasca. |

| Summary, etc. | Practically unknown in the Western countries a few decades ago, ayahuasca and its rituals are actually making a remarkable entry in them. A multi- and interdisciplinary review of this peculiar psychotropic preparation, of which two of the major alkaloids are naturally present in the human body, is presented. The biochemical (compositions), pharmacological (modes of action), and biomedical (cardiovascular parameters, EEG, acute and long term risks, therapeutic utility) aspects particularly retained our attention. A neuropharmacological hypothesis concerning the documented «antiaddictive » potential of ayahuasca is indicated. Expressible in terms of harm limitation, reasons to avoid the ? often more reflex than carefully thought-out ? pathologization and prohibition are exposed. In conclusion is emphasized the necessity to also orient research on the links between the explicit requests addressed to ayahuasca (complementary and alternative therapies, personal achievement, spiritual initiation and development) and the answers brought by ayahuasca rituals. |
