| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article se propose de comprendre le mécanisme social des émeutes des mois d’octobre et novembre dernier. Le rôle joué par les médias n’a pas été sans effets sur les représentations sociales des événements, représentations qui avaient valeur de jugement sur les raisons (ou les torts) des émeutiers, et plus généralement sur la jeunesse populaire issue des banlieues. Loin des caricatures, l’analyse sociologique tend à observer cette jeunesse sous son vrai jour, sans l’amplifier. |

| Summary, etc. | This article aims at understanding the social mechanisms of the riots of October and last November, through the study of their treatment in the media on the one hand, and of their social origins on the other hand. Indeed, the media played a major role in the social representations of the events, representations which were in fact jugements passed on the reasons (and faults) of the rioters, and more largely on the popular youth from the suburbs. Far from any caricature, the sociological analysis tries to observe that youth in their true colours, without amplifying them. |
