| Summary, etc. | Deux études de terrain examinent comment des personnes communiquent l’information scientifique qui leur est présentée lors d’une visite guidée du détecteur de particules ATLAS à l’Organisation Européenne pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN). Deux groupes de participants ont complété un questionnaire avant et après leur visite et écrivent un petit rapport sur l’information scientifique diffusée pendant la visite. En lien avec la théorie des représentations sociales, nous prédisions que les participants allaient ancrer l’information reçue dans leurs attitudes initiales envers la science et l’adapter en conséquence. L’étude 1 montre que les visiteurs avec des attitudes plus favorables à la science utilisent une terminologie plus experte dans leurs comptes rendus que les autres participants, indépendamment de leurs connaissances scientifiques ou de leur difficulté de compréhension éprouvée pendant la visite. L’étude 2 révèle de plus que les visiteurs plus favorables à la science produisent des discours plus focalisés sur l’information scientifique, alors que les moins favorables écrivent un message plus personnalisé et plus éloigné de l’information reçue. Dans la discussion, nous montrons comment ces études contribuent à une psychologie sociale de l’intégration de la science dans la communication quotidienne. |

| Summary, etc. | Two field studies examined how visitors of ATLAS at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) make sense of and communicate the scientific information presented to them during a guided tour. In line with social representations theory, we expected visitors, when they described the visit, to anchor and adapt the information provided according to their initial attitudes toward science. Study 1 showed that, after prior knowledge and perceptions of the visit were accounted for, the visitors with more favorable attitudes used more expert terminology in their posttour written accounts than did other participants. Study 2 further revealed that visitors with more favorable attitudes produced post-tour discourses that focused on the content of the visit, whereas visitors with less favorable attitudes disseminated a more personal story and transmitted less of the information provided during the tour. These studies illustrate how social psychological theorizing contributes to an understanding of the integration of science in everyday communication. |
