On le rencontre jusque dans les établissements de santé, où il explique comment bien se comporter pour mieux se porter. Avec ses recettes psychologiques et son jargon managérial, il touche jusqu’au plus intime de nous-mêmes. Nouvelle forme de contrôle social, cette idéologie a trouvé sa place sur l’intarissable marché de la souffrance psychique générée par le climat d’incertitude qui règne aujourd’hui dans le monde dérégulé du néolibéralisme. À des êtres psychologiquement vulnérables et socialement désorientés par l’injonction paradoxale d’être créatif et conformiste, de s’épanouir ontologiquement tout en se soumettant économiquement, les coachs offrent un airbag psychoaffectif qui apaise ce qu’ils appellent eux-mêmes un intense besoin d’être « sécurisé ». Le corrélat du dispositif général de maintenance sociale qui se met en place à travers cette idéologie sécuritaire est le consentement « libre et éclairé » des individus aux valeurs marchandes de rentabilité et de compétitivité. Le coaching apporte ainsi sa caution à la pauvreté d’une anthropologie des richesses, une anthropologie étroitement économiste et bio-mécanique qui rend le monde dans lequel nous vivons (inégalités économiques et sociales comprises) absolument bon, naturel et nécessaire. |

With its psychological recipes and managerial jargon, it gets right down to our very intimacy. This ideology, which is a new form of social control, has carved out a niche for itself in the inexhaustible market of psychic suffering generated by the climate of uncertainty that nowadays reigns in the deregulated world of neoliberalism. Coaches offer a psychoaffectifve airbag that calms what they themselves call an intense need to feel « secure » to people who are psychologically vulnerable and socially disorientated by the paradoxical injunction to be both creative and conformist, to blossom ontologically while knuckling under economically. The correlate of the general arrangement for social maintenance that holds sway through this security-minded ideology is the « free and informed » consent of individuals to the mercantile values of profitability and competitiveness. Coaching thus gives its approval to the paucity of an anthropology of wealth, a narrowly economist and bio-mechanical anthropology that makes the world we live in (economic and social inequalities included) absolutely good, natural and necessary. |
