| Summary, etc. | L’article s’intéresse tout d’abord à la mesure de l’orientation contrariée à l’université, à savoir les étudiants de licence 1 qui, lors de la première année d’études, ne sont pas inscrits dans la formation souhaitée. En utilisant deux variables distinctes (rang du vœu de la formation acceptée sur Admission Post-Bac et déclaratif au 1er mars de la première année d’études), trois profils d’étudiants ayant connu une telle orientation peuvent être distingués, présentant des différences à la fois sociales et scolaires : les « probables déçus », les « possibles satisfaits » et les « contrariés certains ». La nature de l’information collectée afin d’appréhender l’orientation contrariée est par conséquent loin d’être neutre sur la mesure de cette dernière. Dès lors, ces étudiants connaissent des débuts de parcours d’études inégaux, qu’il s’agisse des réorientations ou de la persévérance dans la formation. Si avoir connu une orientation contrariée reste négativement associé au fait de rester étudier dans la formation, la frontière entre une orientation qui serait souhaitée et une orientation qui serait subie apparaît plus que poreuse, du fait du caractère processuel de l’orientation. |

| Summary, etc. | The article first focuses on the measurement of “thwarted orientation” to university, i.e. the neo-Baccalaureate students who wanted to join another training course first. We distinguish three profiles of students thanks to two distinct variables (one is the rank of the choice of course accepted on Admission Post-Bac, the other is declarative on March of the first year of study). Students “likely disappointed”, “possibly satisfied” or “certainly thwarted” differ significantly, both socially and academically. The nature of the information collected in order to understand the thwarted orientation is therefore far from neutral. As a result, they are subject to different study paths, whether in terms of reorientations or perseverance in the course. If having experienced a thwarted orientation remains negatively associated with the fact of pursuing in the same training, the boundary between desired orientation and undergone orientation, if it exists, appears more than blurred. This is due to the processual nature of orientation. |
