| Summary, etc. | Cet article s’intéresse aux implications des mécanismes d’entraide, de réciprocité et d’échange sur l’adoption ou la non-adoption de l’innovation dans les pays en développement. Une conceptualisation de ce thème est proposée dans le cadre des théories néo-institutionnelles et conventionnalistes. L’analyse s’appuie sur des données d’enquêtes, des entretiens et des observations de terrain en milieu rural à Madagascar. L’idée générale est de montrer comment une convention locale de solidarité, le fihavanana, peut devenir un frein à l’adoption de nouvelles techniques dans la mesure où elle autorise un transfert à la communauté dans son ensemble des risques liés à l’innovation individuelle. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper focuses on the implications of mutual support, reciprocity and trade mechanisms for the adoption or rejection of innovation in developing countries. A conceptual analysis is developed, based on new institutional economics and theory of conventions. More precisely, the objective is to show how a local convention of solidarity, namely the fihavanana, can hamper the adoption of innovative techniques since it allows individual risks to be transferred to the whole community. The analysis relies on survey data, interviews and observations collected from a rural community in Madagascar. |
