Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article tente de réhabiliter le chat pour favoriser le développement de stratégies conversationnelles dans le cadre de l’enseignement à distance en FLE. Sur la base d’observations à partir d’un corpus et de ses pratiques de cours, l’auteure démontre que le chat permet d’entraîner notamment les rites de salutation et d’adieu, le code de l’oral, la gestion des malentendus, l’autocorrection, les changements de topics, les reformulations. Elle considère également que le chat a un effet désinhibant qui favorise la prise de parole des plus timides et un aspect ludique et polyphonique qui pousse les étudiants à démultiplier leurs interventions. Elle en conclut que le chat est un exercice de communication authentique permettant de pallier en partie l’inadéquation des nouvelles technologies pour l’entraînement de l’expression orale dans le cadre de la formation à distance en LE. |

Summary, etc. | This article endeavours do reinstate on-line interaction used to promote the development of conversational strategies, in the framework of distance education in French as a foreign language. On the basis of observations drawn from a corpus and her own classroom experience, the author shows that on-line interaction allows learners to practice a number of aspects of language, notably, ritual (phatic) language such as greetings and leave taking, spoken language, the management of misunderstandings, self-correction, topic change and reformulation. She also considers that on-line interaction helps shy learners to speak as they are less inhibited and the ludic and polyphonic nature of this medium encourages students to intervene more frequently than they might do otherwise. The author concludes that chat is an authentic communication exercise in that it makes up for the inadequacy of new technologies in oral practice in distance learning for foreign languages. |
